dc.description.abstract | An epidemiology study of canine distemper was carried out at the city of Santa Fe, Argentine between 1998 and 2009. In dogs in which canine distemper was diagnosed by direct immunofluorescent technique, three types of treatments were performed; maintenance treatment, maintenance treatment plus bacterial lipopolysaccharide, and maintenance treatment plus azathioprine. The presence of fever, anorexia, ocular discharge and respiratory signs were observed in more than the 80% of the cases. The major prevalence of the disease was presented in 1999, with 32.79% of the cases. The high incidence of the disease occurred in November; 22.95%. The seasonal distribution was 33.61% in winter, 34.43% in spring, 15.57% in summer and 16.39% in autumn. The affected males were 63.08% and the females were 36.92%. The 17.69% of the cases were small-size dogs, 42.31% were medium-size dogs, and 40.00% were big-size dogs. The 73.64% of the cases were puppies, 24.81% were adult dogs and the 1.55% were older dogs. No differences were observed between the proportions of dogs with favorable and unfavorable evolution in the three types of treatments done. The dispersion of the days in which the favorable evolution of the disease occurred was lower in dogs who received the maintenance treatment plus bacterial lipopolysaccharide, than those which received maintenance therapy plus azathioprine. | en |
