Optimización de la cadena de suministros forestal considerando criterios ambientales

Abstract

En esta tesis se aborda el diseño óptimo de la industria forestal desde un enfoque de Cadena de Suministro (CS). Éste consiste en determinar qué tipo y tamaño de plantas instalar, en qué sitio localizarlas, el flujo existente entre los diferentes elementos que componen el sistema, la cantidad de cada producto a elaborar, entre otros. En general, hasta ahora, el diseño se ha realizado con criterios económicos, por ejemplo, maximizando beneficios, sin incluir otros aspectos como aquellos vinculados al ambiente donde operan los diferentes elementos de la CS. En este sentido, esta tesis tiene como principal objetivo incluir la perspectiva ambiental en el diseño de la CS forestal con el fin de mejorar la sustentabilidad del sistema. En una primera instancia, se hace especial énfasis en el uso de residuos y subproductos generados a lo largo de los diferentes procesos de este tipo de industria, con el objetivo de aprovechar material que, en parte, se desperdicia actualmente. En una segunda instancia, en respuesta a la necesidad de generar herramientas y enfoques que permitan considerar cuestiones vinculadas al entorno de los sitios donde operan las unidades productivas de la CS, se presenta una metodología, basada en la Evaluación de Impacto Ambiental. Ésta permite tener en cuenta aspectos del medio natural y social en el diseño de la CS forestal, lo cual, en esta tesis, se realiza a partir de considerar cuestiones vinculadas con la normativa y la creación e implementación de indicadores.

In this thesis, the optimal design of the forestry industry is addressed from a Supply Chain (SC) approach. This consists of determining the type and size of plants to be installed, the place where locate them, the flow between the different SC nodes, the amount of each product to be processed, among others. In general, until now, the economical criteria has been considered for designing a SC, for example, maximizing benefits, without including other aspects such as those related to the environment where the different elements of the SC operate. In this sense, the main objective of this thesis is to include the environmental perspective into the design of the forest SC, in order to improve the sustainability of the system. In the first instance, a special emphasis is placed on the use of waste and by-products generated throughout the different processes in this type of industry, with the aim of taking advantage of material that, in part, is currently discarded. In a second instance, in response to generate tools and approaches that allow considering issues related to the environment of the sites where the productive units of the SC operate, a methodology based on the Environmental Impact Assessment is presented. This allows taking into account aspects of the natural and social environment in the design of the forest SC, which, in this thesis, is made considering issues related to regulations and the creation and implementation of indicators.
