This study analyzes the forms of resistance that emerge in response to new approaches to school commemorative dates in primary schools in the cities of Santa Fe and Santo Tomé. The research is based on the premise that commemorative dates are not merely historical events remembered periodically, but also social and institutional constructions that have played a central role in the formation of national identities and the transmission of values. The study draws on theoretical contributions related to teaching practices, commemorative dates, new approaches, and the forms of resistance that arise in response to them.
The research was conducted through a methodological strategy that combined qualitative and quantitative approaches. Likewise, the information was analyzed using content analysis, facilitating data triangulation and the development of well-grounded interpretations.
The results reveal the persistence of traditional practices associated with commemorative dates, particularly through ritualized school ceremonies, patriotic narratives, and historical representations centered on hegemonic versions of the past. These continuities coexist with attempts at renewal promoted by contemporary historiography and subject-specific didactics, generating tensions and forms of resistance associated with institutional, educational, and cultural factors. In this regard, the study concludes that re-signifying commemorative dates constitutes a pedagogical challenge that requires the promotion of reflective, critical, and contextualized practices capable of moving beyond merely commemorative approaches and fostering a more complex understanding of historical processes and the construction of citizenship.
