dc.description.abstract Introduction and Objectives: absenteeism due to Temporary Work Incapacity (TWI) represents a multifactorial and institutional challenge. The general objective of the research was to demonstrate the predominance of hand injuries over other body areas in workplace accidents within a private sanatorium in Santa Fe. Materials and Methods: quantitative, descriptive, retrospective, and observational study covering all permanent staff between 2016 and 2018 (N=211 in 2016-2017; N=245 in 2018). Data were obtained from the Occupational Medicine Service and institutional personnel files. Results: • Anatomical location: 71,55% of accidents affected the upper limb, far exceeding the lower limb (26%). • Mechanisms and injuries: The main cause was inoculation with biological agents (22,6%). Puncture wounds to the hand predominated (30,35%), followed by contusions (22,32%), strains (14,28%), and sprains (10,07%). • Affected positions: nursing accounted for 80,4% of absenteeism due to puncture wounds. Incised wounds affected nurses (45,8%) and cooks (45,8%) equally. Conclusion: the high incidence of sharp and puncture injuries to the upper limb among healthcare personnel is confirmed, highlighting the need to strengthen position-specific biosafety protocols and emphasizing the integrative value of Legal Medicine. en_EN
